Global Investor Summit: PM Modi says MP can be among top 5 GDP states

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Madhya Pradesh Global Investors Summit (GIS) 2025 in Bhopal on Monday, lauding the state’s progress and highlighting its potential to become one of the top five states in India in terms of GDP. He emphasized Madhya Pradesh’s crucial role in shaping India’s economic future.

Addressing investors, PM Modi spoke about the world’s growing optimism toward India’s economic trajectory. “This is the first time in India’s history that the world is so optimistic about our future. Just a few days ago, the World Bank stated that India will remain the world’s fastest-growing economy in the coming years. A representative from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) also said that the future of the world is in India. These examples reflect the world’s confidence in our country, which is inspiring every state, including Madhya Pradesh. This confidence is evident at MP’s Global Investment Summit today,” he stated.

Highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s economic strengths, the Prime Minister noted its standing as the fifth-largest state in terms of population, a leading player in agriculture, and among the top five states in mineral resources. “This state has every potential to be among the top five GDP states in the country. Over the past two decades, Madhya Pradesh has undergone a remarkable transformation and has become one of the most attractive states for investment,” he added.

PM Modi also acknowledged the state’s growing prominence in India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution. “More than two lakh electric vehicles were registered in Madhya Pradesh by January 2025, reflecting a growth of nearly 90%. This surge showcases the state’s emergence as a thriving hub for EV manufacturing,” he said.

The Prime Minister further praised Madhya Pradesh’s infrastructure development, which has enhanced its connectivity and accessibility. “Madhya Pradesh has benefitted from India’s infrastructure boom. The state’s seamless connectivity between Delhi and Mumbai provides easy access to Mumbai’s ports and the markets of North India,” he noted. With a road network spanning over five lakh kilometers and industrial corridors linked by modern expressways, the state is poised for logistics sector growth. Additionally, the entire rail network is now fully electrified. “The modernization of Bhopal’s Rani Kamlapati Railway Station is a testament to this progress. Building on this momentum, 80 railway stations across Madhya Pradesh are being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,” he added.

PM Modi also emphasized the state’s rapid advancements in the green energy sector. “In the last decade, India has witnessed unprecedented growth in green energy. Nearly USD 70 billion has been invested in the renewable energy sector, creating over 10 lakh jobs in the past year alone. Madhya Pradesh has a power generation capacity of 31,000 MW, with 30% derived from solar energy. Recently, a floating solar power plant was inaugurated in Omkareshwar, further boosting the state’s renewable energy capabilities,” he said.

The Madhya Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2025, which began on Monday, will continue until February 25. The state government has invited entrepreneurs from 60 countries to explore investment opportunities. The summit will also host 13 ambassadors, six high commissioners, and several consul generals from key strategic nations, fostering stronger international business ties.
