The movie is nominated in 9 categories, followed by its competitor Oppenheimer, which managed to score 8 nominations. With this, Barbie became the second most-nominated movie in the 81-year history of the show, tying it with “Cabaret.”
Barbie's director Greta Gerwig is nominated for best director in a historic dual nomination for women. She will contend with Celine Song from “Past Lives”. Margot Robbie, the actress who played “Barbie” is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.
Meanwhile, Cillian Murphy, the lead actor of “Oppenheimer” has been nominated in the Best Performance category alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper.
