Government of India sanctions Rs.3,295.76 crore for 40 tourism projects, enhances infrastructure to position India as a Global Tourist Hub

The Government of India has taken several key initiatives to position the country as a premier global tourist destination during the Amrit Kaal. These efforts aim to boost tourism by enhancing infrastructure and delivering an improved travel experience for both domestic and international visitors.

The Ministry of Tourism has been actively promoting India’s diverse tourism destinations and products through a variety of promotional activities. This includes media campaigns, social media promotions, webinars, and participation in promotional events. Indian Missions abroad also contribute by attracting global travellers to various destinations in India.

One of the significant steps taken by the Ministry is the launch of the Incredible India Content Hub on the revamped Incredible India digital portal. This comprehensive digital repository features high-quality images, films, brochures, and newsletters related to tourism in India, catering to a wide range of stakeholders including tour operators, journalists, researchers, and content creators.

To develop tourism infrastructure, the Ministry provides financial assistance to State Governments, Union Territory Administrations, and Central Agencies under schemes such as ‘Swadesh Darshan,’ ‘PRASHAD,’ and ‘Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development.’ Additionally, the Swadesh Darshan Scheme has been revamped as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 to promote sustainable and responsible tourism following a destination-centric approach.

The Government has also sanctioned 40 projects worth Rs.3,295.76 crore under the ‘Scheme for Special Assistance to States/Union Territories for Capital Investment (SASCI).’ Further, financial aid is being provided to states and UTs for organizing fairs, festivals, and tourism-related events.

As part of capacity building, the Ministry is conducting programs under the ‘Capacity Building for Service Providers’ (CBSP) Scheme to train and upgrade manpower, ensuring better service standards at tourist sites. The Incredible India Tourist Facilitator (IITF) Certification Programme was launched to create a pool of local, trained professionals to enhance the overall experience for tourists.

Collaborating with other ministries, the Ministry of Tourism is working with the Ministry of Railways to develop tourist amenities at 22 railway stations and with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways/National Highway Authority of India to improve road connectivity to tourist destinations. The Ministry also coordinates with the Ministry of Civil Aviation to enhance air connectivity to important tourist destinations and emerging travel spots.
