The Government of India has launched several key initiatives aimed at transforming the agriculture sector by improving production, enhancing farmer incomes, and promoting sustainable practices. These programs, approved recently by the Union Cabinet, signify a robust commitment to strengthening the country’s agricultural landscape.
Clean Plant Programme (CPP)
Approved on August 9, 2024, with an allocation of ₹1,765.67 crore, the CPP seeks to enhance horticultural productivity by providing disease-free planting materials. This initiative also focuses on adopting climate-resilient crop varieties to ensure higher yields and sustainable farming.
Digital Agriculture Mission
Sanctioned on September 2, 2024, with a budget of ₹2,817 crore, including ₹1,940 crore as a central share, this mission aims to revolutionize agriculture with digital solutions. It includes developing digital public infrastructure, implementing the Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES), and advancing IT-driven tools to benefit farmers.
Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Expansion
On August 28, 2024, the Cabinet approved the expansion of AIF to include community farming assets, integrated processing units, and convergence with PM-KUSUM-A projects, ensuring holistic agricultural growth.
National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-Oilseeds)
Launched on October 3, 2024, with an outlay of ₹10,103 crore, this mission targets increased domestic oilseed production to reduce reliance on imports. The program is set to run from 2024-25 to 2030-31.
National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF)
Introduced on November 25, 2024, with a budget of ₹2,481 crore, NMNF promotes natural farming practices as a sustainable alternative, marking a significant shift towards eco-friendly agriculture.
