The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), launched in 2016 to provide ‘pucca’ houses with basic amenities for rural households, has been extended by five years. The government aims to construct an additional two crore houses under the scheme by FY 2028-29, building on the initial target of 2.95 crore houses set for FY 2016-17 to 2023-24.
Minister of State for Rural Development, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, shared these details in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
To identify eligible households, a nationwide survey is being conducted using the Awaas+ 2024 Mobile App, launched on September 17. The app facilitates both self-surveys and assisted surveys by pre-registered surveyors. Orientation workshops have trained over two lakh surveyors and field staff across 26 states and 8 Union Territories to ensure the effective implementation of the scheme.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to achieving “housing for all” in rural areas, addressing housing inadequacies, and improving the quality of life in villages.
