Gujarat: PM Modi interacts with ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in Navsari on International Women’s Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Lakhpati Didis on Saturday in Gujarat’s Navsari district. He was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

A Lakhpati Didi is a member of a Self-Help Group (SHG) who earns an annual household income of at least ₹1 lakh, calculated over four agricultural seasons and/or business cycles. To qualify, the member must have a sustainable average monthly income exceeding ₹10,000.

The Lakhpati initiative promotes diversified livelihood activities by ensuring convergence among various government departments, ministries, private sector entities, and market players. Its strategy includes focused planning, implementation, and monitoring at all levels.

As part of the event, PM Modi will felicitate five Lakhpati Didis with Lakhpati Didi Certificates and address the gathering. He will also launch the G-SAFAL (Gujarat Scheme for Antyodaya Families for Augmenting Livelihoods) and G-MAITRI (Gujarat Mentorship and Acceleration of Individuals for Transforming Rural Income) programmes of the Gujarat government.

The G-MAITRI scheme aims to support startups focused on creating a conducive environment for rural livelihoods through financial assistance and mentorship. Meanwhile, G-SAFAL will provide financial aid and entrepreneurial training to SHG women from Antyodaya families in two aspirational districts and thirteen aspirational blocks of Gujarat.

On the occasion, PM Modi paid tribute to Nari Shakti, acknowledging the strength and contributions of women. In a post on X, he announced that his social media platforms would be taken over by women from diverse fields to highlight their achievements.

“We bow to our Nari Shakti on #WomensDay! Our government has always worked towards empowering women, as reflected in our schemes and programmes. Today, as promised, my social media platforms will be taken over by women making a mark in various fields,” the Prime Minister said.
