Gujarat Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Rushikesh Patel on Thursday invited industrialists to invest in the state, highlighting its policy support and favourable geographical conditions for the development of the green hydrogen ecosystem.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 2nd Bharat Green Hydrogen Summit 2026 at FICCI Federation House in New Delhi, Patel said Gujarat has introduced a comprehensive policy framework, including an industrial policy, green hydrogen policy and renewable energy (RE) policy, to facilitate investments in the sector.
He said Gujarat offers several natural advantages for green hydrogen production, including an extensive coastline and abundant sunlight, which support the development of infrastructure and operations across the green hydrogen value chain.
Patel said India is expanding its focus from renewable energy to green hydrogen as a future fuel, in line with the country’s clean energy transition under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He noted that sectors dependent on energy are undergoing significant changes to integrate green hydrogen alongside renewable energy sources. According to the minister, Gujarat has considerable potential to become a major hub for green hydrogen production and related industries.
Highlighting progress in domestic manufacturing, Patel said electrolyser technology is a key component of green hydrogen production and noted that Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has developed a 4-megawatt electrolyser at its Hazira facility.
He said the start of electrolyser manufacturing in India marks an important milestone and will serve as a major catalyst for the growth of the country’s green hydrogen sector.
