Haj 2026 begins: First flight flagged off from Delhi as Centre assures seamless pilgrimage

The first batch of Indian pilgrims for Haj 2026 departed from Delhi on Saturday, with Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Dr. Srivatsa Krishna, flagging off the inaugural flight to Madinah at 9:45 am.

Addressing the pilgrims at the embarkation point, he conveyed his best wishes for a safe and spiritually fulfilling journey, while assuring them of comprehensive arrangements put in place for their comfort and well-being throughout the pilgrimage.

Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, extended his greetings to all 1,75,025 pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey, reiterating the Centre’s commitment to ensuring a smooth, safe and comfortable Haj experience. He highlighted several new initiatives introduced this year, including end-to-end digitisation of the application process, improved transparency in selection, and enhanced facilities at embarkation points.

The government has also coordinated closely with the Consulate General of India in Jeddah and Saudi authorities to ensure robust medical and logistical support, as part of ongoing efforts to make the pilgrimage more inclusive, efficient and hassle-free.
