Harsh Malhotra lays foundation for 4 flyovers, 9 foot overbridges on NH-48 in Gurugram

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways & Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, today laid the foundation stone for four new flyovers and nine foot overbridges on the Gurugram–Kotputli–Jaipur section of National Highway-48. The projects, worth ₹282 crore, aim to decongest traffic, enhance safety, and improve connectivity across Gurugram, Rewari and adjoining regions.

The four flyovers will be built at Panchgaon Chowk, Rathiwas, near Hero Company, and Sahlawas, while nine foot overbridges will come up at Shikhopur, Manesar, Binola, Rathiwas, Malpura, Jaisinghpurkhera, Sidhrawali, Kharkhara, and Khijuri.

Malhotra said the projects are aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to build a Viksit Bharat through world-class infrastructure. He highlighted that India’s national highway network has expanded from 91,000 km in 2014 to over 1.46 lakh km today, making it the second-largest globally. The pace of highway construction has also risen nearly threefold, from 12 km per day in 2014-15 to almost 34 km per day in 2023-24.

The minister underlined Gurugram’s transformation into an economic hub, thanks to landmark projects such as the Dwarka Expressway, Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, and the Gurugram–Sohna elevated corridor. He credited Minister Shri Rao Inderjit Singh for his role in elevating Gurugram’s status as a leading economic and technological centre.

The new flyovers will eliminate accident-prone blackspots and at-grade traffic conflicts, while the FOBs—equipped with ramps, stairways, and lighting—will enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility. Malhotra said these projects would not only reduce congestion and road accidents but also contribute to regional economic prosperity.

He added that strategic decongestion works worth over ₹80,000 crore have already been completed in Delhi-NCR, while several other projects—including expressway extensions, urban corridors, and tunnels—are underway or in planning.
