Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, on Sunday, underscored the pivotal role of Hindi in uniting India’s diverse cultural fabric and fostering national development during his address at the Annual Convention and Hindi Sevi Samman Samaroh organized by ‘Etawah Hindi Seva Nidhi.’
Highlighting Hindi’s significance, Birla said, “Hindi is not just a language; it is the soul and identity of India.” He emphasized that Indian languages, especially Hindi, have played a critical role in weaving the country’s cultural diversity into a unified thread, empowering society and the nation.
Birla added that Hindi’s adaptability to modern technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), has expanded its reach globally. “Today, the rich legacy of Hindi literature and poetry is accessible worldwide, and Hindi is increasingly being used in justice, administration, and internet technology,” he said.
Furthermore, Birla emphasised the importance of Hindi in strengthening India’s democratic institutions and governance systems. He pointed out that during the drafting of India’s Constitution, visionary leaders recognized the unifying potential of Hindi amidst the nation’s linguistic diversity.
Reflecting on parliamentary proceedings, Birla added, “India has 22 scheduled languages, and Parliament ensures translation and interpretation facilities for members speaking in their native languages. Modern technology, like AI, is helping us expand these capabilities.” He also said that the Supreme Court has also begun translating its judgments into multiple Indian languages, a step forward in making justice accessible to all.
Birla urged citizens to take pride in Indian languages, culture, and spirituality. Sharing his experiences from international visits, he observed a growing global interest in learning and understanding Hindi, further reinforcing its stature on the world stage.
“Times have changed,” he said. “We must continue to adapt and ensure that our languages, including Hindi, remain relevant and celebrated in the modern era.”
The event concluded with a call to preserve and promote Indian languages, with Hindi at the forefront, as a symbol of national unity and pride.
