Archaeologists discovered remains of four funerary bundles from around 3,800 years ago in a wasteland that could conceal a ceremonial temple in northern Peru, a researcher said of another finding that provides further evidence of Peru’s millenary culture.
The bundles were found amid stone and clay walls near a valley in the province of Viru, La Libertad region, a territory that hosts various important civilizations of ancient Peru.
The finding took place a month after 800-year-old bone remains belonging to 11 high-class people were found near the Chan Chan archaeological site, which served as the capital of the Chimu civilization, on the northern coast.
Peru is home to dozens of ancient archaeological sites. Around 500 years ago, it saw the rise of the Inca culture, which dominated from the south of Ecuador and Colombia to central Chile.
