The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a mixed weather alert for Rajasthan, warning of continued heatwave conditions alongside the possibility of storms and light rainfall in several districts over the coming days.
According to the department, Rajasthan is expected to endure two more days of intense heatwave conditions (April 25–26) before a change in weather patterns brings partial relief.
A western disturbance is likely to become active over the state within this period, which may trigger gusty winds, thunderstorms, and light rain in nearly 16 districts.
Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, stated that the impact of severe heat will persist across the state on April 25 and 26, with temperatures expected to rise further by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius.
Heatwave conditions will prevail in the northwestern districts, where temperatures in some areas could be recorded between 44 and 45 degrees Celsius.
Over the past 24 hours, most parts of the state have remained under severe heat. Maximum temperatures in at least 24 cities ranged between 40 degrees Celsius and 44 degrees Celsius, with Barmer recording the highest at 44.1 degrees Celsius. Jaipur also experienced one of its hottest days this season. Heatwave warnings have been issued for several districts, including Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Deeg, Dholpur, Karauli and Bikaner.
Authorities in Alwar have taken mitigation measures such as sprinkling water on roads to reduce surface temperatures and provide temporary relief to residents.
Simultaneously, alerts have been sounded for gusty winds, thunderstorms, and light rain in parts of Sikar, Churu, Jhunjhunu and Nagaur on Saturday.
A slight shift in weather was observed on Friday in northwestern Rajasthan. Cloud cover developed over Churu, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, and Bikaner, accompanied by dusty winds in the evening. Some isolated areas in Hanumangarh also reported light drizzle.
However, conditions remained uncomfortable, with Hanumangarh recording the hottest night of the season at 31.2 degrees Celsius.
Several cities, including Ajmer, Tonk, Karauli, Dausa, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Jalore, and Pali, have recorded their highest temperatures of the season so far, highlighting the widespread intensity of the heatwave.
Meteorologists indicate that once the western disturbance becomes active, parts of Rajasthan may experience thunderstorms, dust storms, and light rainfall, offering temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave. Residents are advised to take precautions against extreme heat, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours.
