Inaugural ‘WAVES Bazaar’ expected to see deals worth Rs 1,000 crore: govt

The first edition of the ‘WAVES Bazaar’ is poised to witness business transactions worth over Rs 1,000 crore, with deal-making still in progress, according to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Held under the umbrella of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai, the event recorded transactions exceeding Rs 800 crore across sectors including film, music, radio, VFX, and animation.

The government described the event as a resounding success, calling it a premier platform for international business collaboration in the creative industries.

A key feature of the Bazaar was the Buyer-Seller Market, which facilitated over 3,000 B2B meetings, resulting in revenue of over Rs 500 crore. Additional deals are expected to be finalised in the coming days.

Curated film screenings at the 80-seat venue received enthusiastic responses, while the platform also allowed emerging creators to pitch their intellectual properties to a global network of buyers and collaborators, generating strong interest and new partnerships.

In a notable development, India and New Zealand are set to strengthen ties through a collaborative proposal between Film India Screen Collective and Screen Canterbury NZ, led by Petrina D’Rozario. Inspired by WAVES, the two sides plan to launch the first-ever Indian Film Festival in New Zealand.

A major highlight of the event was the announcement of a multi-year strategic collaboration between Prime Video and CJ ENM. The partnership aims to distribute premium Korean content globally, starting with the launch of Head Over Heels in June 2025. The show will stream in over 240 countries, with 28 subtitle languages and 11 dubbed versions.
