Wang Lei, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in India, on Tuesday expressed China’s readiness to work with India “in the spirit of looking to the future and pursuing win-win cooperation to invest their resources into development and revitalization, placing the border issue in an appropriate position within bilateral ties.”
He hosted a reception in New Delhi for the Chinese New Year, where he emphasized the need for India and China to jointly maintain peace and tranquility in their border areas. He noted that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Wang recalled that India was one of the first nations to recognize New China and establish diplomatic relations with it.
Wang said, “As two major developing countries and important members of the Global South, China-India relations maintain healthy development, aligning with the interests of over 2.8 billion people in both countries.” He added that China is ready to work with India to promote win-win cooperation and prioritize the border issue within bilateral relations.
He also highlighted the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October, where both sides agreed to enhance strategic communication and safeguard peace along the border.
Speaking about the 23rd meeting of Special Representatives for the China-India Boundary Question in December, Wang mentioned that the two sides had reached a six-point consensus on the border issue.
Regarding trade exchanges, Wang noted that the trade volume between India and China reached 126.6 billion USD in the first 11 months of 2024, showing a 1.9 percent year-on-year growth. He also pointed to the rapid growth in people-to-people exchanges, with the Chinese Embassy issuing 280,000 visas to Indians last year.
Wang further mentioned that 2024 marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and highlighted its strategic plans for high-quality development. Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, shared pictures from the event, noting the presence of representatives from the Indian government, political parties, think tanks, media, and students.
