India and France held bilateral talks in New Delhi on Monday, focusing on disarmament and non-proliferation, particularly regarding nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. Discussions also covered space security, conventional arms, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in military operations, lethal autonomous weapon systems, and multilateral export control regimes.
During the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session last September, India prioritized disarmament. New Delhi is committed to advancing its pragmatic and constructive approach within the First Committee and UN Disarmament Commission, aiming to engage all stakeholders on issues concerning outer space, cyberspace, and beyond.
India remains steadfast in its commitment to achieving universal, non-discriminatory, and verifiable nuclear disarmament. According to its nuclear doctrine, India maintains a credible minimum deterrence posture, with a policy of no-first-use and a commitment not to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear weapon states, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs.
