Himachal Pradesh cloudburst: Indian Army builds temporary bridges to carry out restoration work

The rescue and search operations continue in Rampur’s Samej, following the devastating cloudburst on Thursday. Teams from the Indian Army, NDRF, SDRF, Home Guard, and CISF have been deployed to carry out restoration efforts in the affected area. On Sunday, the Army constructed temporary bridges to restore connectivity between isolated areas, facilitating the ongoing rescue operations.

Speaking about the experience of being rescued, Ravindra Kumar told ANI, “We are coming from Sarpara village; the road has been cut off due to the cloudburst, and hence we have to come by foot… It was good (the bridge was established by the Indian Army). It helped us cross.”

Rampur SDM Nishant Tomar mentioned that as many as four villages are still not connected by road, and a temporary bridge has been built to carry out restoration work. He further added that road restoration work in Sarpara village is underway.

“There are four villages that are still not connected by road. The Indian Army has built a temporary bridge here so that people can get help. The work of road restoration in Sarpara village is ongoing. Food supplies are being provided to the affected families. People have been told not to go near rivers and streams,” said Rampur SDM Nishant Tomar.

The Home Guard Commandant, RP Nepta, informed ANI that the rescue operation recommenced at 7 a.m. in Rampur’s Samej. He stated that five JCBs have been deployed today and various teams are coordinating to recover the maximum number of bodies.

“It is the fourth day today. Yesterday, there was a review meeting. Today, we will work on a war footing. Five JCBs have been deployed here. Task forces have been assigned different roles. The search operation commenced at 7 a.m. today. I hope we will recover bodies today. Local people have told us where we can possibly find bodies. We will conduct search operations there as well. We are also building a bridge,” said the Home Guard Commandant.

INDIA bloc should prepare itself to sit in the opposition in 2029 as well, says Amit Shah

Taking a dig at the INDIA bloc, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said they should prepare to sit in the opposition in 2029 as well.

Shah made these remarks while inaugurating the Nyay Setu water supply project and launching the Smart City Mission in Chandigarh. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing confidence that the NDA will secure victory in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

“INDIA bloc should prepare itself to sit in the opposition in 2029 as well. I assure you, let the opposition do whatever it wants, in 2029 NDA will come, and Modi ji will come. They (the opposition) do not know that BJP has won more seats in this election than the number of seats Congress got in three elections,” said the Union Home Minister.

Lashing out at the opposition, Amit Shah said that the INDIA bloc aims to create instability and must learn how to function in the opposition.

“These people who want to spread instability repeatedly say that this government is not going to last. I have come to assure them that not only will the government complete its term, but the next government will be of the NDA. Be ready to sit in the opposition and learn how to work in the opposition properly,” he said.

Speaking on the importance of the Nyay Setu project, the Union Home Minister stated, “This is an important programme. Water is very important; we cannot exist without it. When it is not clean, we get a lot of diseases. For this whole area, a 24/7 supply of filtered, clean water will be provided for the people. It will stand the test of time.”

“This project is spread over about 125 acres. Ever since Modi ji became the Prime Minister, the focus has been on smart cities, and Chandigarh was first on this list. So far, Rs one lakh crore has been spent. The mission of providing clean drinking water to 74 percent of households in the country has been completed, and water-borne diseases have reduced significantly. The work of providing clean water to every household in the country will be completed before the end of Modi ji’s third term,” he added.
