India’s digital healthcare ecosystem has crossed a major milestone, with over 100 crore health records now linked to Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) under the National Health Authority-implemented Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The achievement marks a significant step towards building an integrated, citizen-centric and interoperable healthcare system across the country.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the number of ABHA-linked health records doubled from 50 crore in February 2025 to over 100 crore within just 15 months, highlighting the rapid adoption of digital health services. Nearly 10 crore records are currently being linked every two to three months. From fewer than 1,000 linked records in its early phase to over 100 crore today, ABDM has emerged as one of the world’s largest digital health ecosystems.
ABHA functions as a unique digital health identity that allows citizens to securely access and link their medical records across hospitals, laboratories, clinics and healthcare providers. Through ABDM’s consent-based health information exchange framework, users can digitally share records with healthcare professionals while ensuring privacy and data security.
The growth has been driven by the integration of over 450 public and private health technology solutions into the ABDM ecosystem. Major government programmes and platforms contributing to the milestone include CoWIN, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, eHospital by National Informatics Centre, eSushrut by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Uttar Pradesh’s eKavach platform, Gujarat’s TeCHO platform and Rajasthan’s iHMS platform.
Among states, Uttar Pradesh emerged as the leading contributor with over 15.03 crore ABHA-linked health records, followed by Andhra Pradesh with over 11.95 crore linked records. Bihar, Rajasthan and Gujarat also recorded significant progress.
CEO of the National Health Authority, Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, said the milestone reflects the growing adoption of digital health services across government programmes, states, healthcare facilities and private technology partners. He noted that ABHA-linked records empower citizens with secure and consent-based access to their health information while supporting continuity of care across the healthcare ecosystem.
The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is building the country’s digital public infrastructure for healthcare through platforms such as ABHA, Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR), Health Facility Registry (HFR), Health Information Exchange and Consent Manager (HIE-CM), Unified Health Interface (UHI) and National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX). The initiative aims to create a connected, paperless and patient-centric healthcare ecosystem nationwide.
