India expresses concern over Israeli strikes in Qatar, calls for restraint

India on Tuesday expressed concern over reports of Israeli airstrikes in Doha, Qatar, urging all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise diplomacy to prevent further escalation in the region.

In an official statement, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen reports about the Israeli strikes in Doha earlier today. We are deeply concerned by this development and its impact on the security situation in the region.”

The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf following a series of reported Israeli strikes in the Qatari capital. While details are still being verified, preliminary accounts indicate damage to civilian infrastructure and heightened security alerts across the region.

India’s response underscored the need to maintain regional stability and avoid actions that could jeopardise peace. “We strongly urge restraint and diplomacy, so that peace and security in the region are not endangered,” the MEA added.

The remarks reflect India’s longstanding position of advocating dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution, while also highlighting its strategic interest in West Asia – a region with a large Indian diaspora and vital economic ties.

As of now, no official details have emerged regarding casualties or the nature of the targets hit. Qatar has yet to issue a formal response, while international observers have called for urgent de-escalation.

India maintains close diplomatic relations with both Israel and Qatar and is expected to monitor the situation closely, with further advisories likely depending on developments.
