Indian athletes will look to add more medals to India’s tally at the Asian Games 2026, with the women’s cricket team taking centre stage as it faces Sri Lanka in the gold medal clash on Tuesday. India, the defending gold medallists, opted to bat first in the gold medal clash on Tuesday.

India have made no changes to the playing XI that secured a semifinal victory over Bangladesh. Sri Lanka have also retained the same playing XI as they look to avenge their recent losses against India.

It is also a historic day for Japanese cricket, with the reigning T20 world champions and one of the most popular cricket teams in the world, India’s senior men’s cricket team is set to play a T20 match against Japan in Sano on Tuesday before beginning their Asian Games campaign.

However, rain could affect the proceedings as India’s pre-match practice session was washed out due to rain.

In other sporting events at the Asian Games, Elavenil Valarivan and Parth Mane have qualified for the final of the 10m air rifle mixed team event. Having already won medals in the team event, the Indian pair will now aim to add another medal in the mixed team competition.

In boxing, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sakshi Chaudhary defeated Paris Olympics bronze medallist Aira Villegas in the preliminary round on Tuesday to advance to the pre-quarterfinals.

However, there was disappointment on the badminton court, where the Indian women’s team bowed out in the quarterfinals following young Tanvi Sharma’s defeat to Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara.
