India hosts side event on adolescent health at World Health Assembly

India on Thursday hosted an event focused on the health of women, children, and adolescents on the sidelines of the ongoing 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva.

Organized in collaboration with Norway, UNICEF, UNFPA, and the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH), the event aimed to encourage investment and policy changes to benefit these groups and share new findings.

Apurva Chandra, Union Health Secretary and leader of the Indian delegation, highlighted India’s progress in the health sector and the initiatives launched by the government to improve adolescent health.

Chandra emphasized India’s commitment to women, children, and adolescents health through programs like the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) initiatives and the Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram. He also mentioned TeleManas, a key initiative to support mental health.

Chandra stressed the importance of effective communication strategies to reach adolescents and the need to involve youth representatives in planning and implementing health programs.
