India launches ‘Operation Sadbhav’ to aid flood-hit Laos

The Government has initiated Operation Sadbhav to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to Laos, following the devastating floods and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi. The natural disaster has affected nearly 40,000 people, inflicting widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, and agricultural lands in northern Laos.

In response, India has dispatched ten tonnes of essential relief supplies to the Government of Lao PDR. The relief package includes hygiene kits, blankets, mosquito nets and repellents, sleeping bags, generators, water purifiers, purification tablets, disinfectants, and other vital materials. The supplies were airlifted today aboard a special aircraft sent from India.

India’s swift response highlights its role as a key provider of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) in the region. Operation Sadbhav aligns with India’s broader efforts under its ‘Act East Policy,’ strengthening its commitment to humanitarian outreach within the ASEAN region.
