India-Malaysia Security Dialogue: NSA Doval, Nushirwan discuss defence and counter-terrorism

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his Malaysian counterpart, Raja Dato Nushirwan, Director General of the National Security Council of Malaysia, convened the first India-Malaysia Security Dialogue in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on the global and regional security environment, with both sides sharing views on prevailing challenges. They also reviewed bilateral cooperation in security, defence, and maritime affairs.

Discussions included enhancing collaboration in areas such as counterterrorism, deradicalization, cybersecurity, the defence industry, and maritime security. Additionally, the two countries explored opportunities for cooperation in critical minerals and rare earths.

The dialogue will now be held annually as part of an agreement to strengthen institutional discussions.

This initiative stems from Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India in August 2024, during which both nations elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and committed to deepening security cooperation.
