India-Malaysia ties guided by IMPACT vision: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday underscored the depth of India–Malaysia ties, saying India’s success is intrinsically linked with Malaysia’s progress and, in turn, with Asia’s growth. Addressing the Indian diaspora in Kuala Lumpur, the Prime Minister said the bilateral partnership is guided by the vision of IMPACT — India–Malaysia Partnership for Advancing Collective Transformation.

Speaking during a community programme as part of his two-day visit to Malaysia, Prime Minister Modi said the two countries celebrate each other’s achievements as their own. He recalled Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim extending his good wishes following the success of India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission, describing it as a reflection of the close bond between the two nations.

Explaining the IMPACT framework, Prime Minister Modi said it reflects the shared ambition of both countries to accelerate cooperation, expand the scale of engagement and deliver tangible benefits for their people. He said the partnership aims to positively impact the pace of bilateral relations, the scope of joint ambitions and the welfare of citizens.

Highlighting growing economic and technological cooperation, the Prime Minister said over 100 Indian information technology companies are currently operating in Malaysia, generating thousands of jobs. He also noted that India and Malaysia are working closely in the digital domain, with the Malaysia–India Digital Council opening new avenues for collaboration.

Prime Minister Modi announced that India’s digital payments platform, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), will soon be launched in Malaysia, further strengthening digital connectivity between the two countries.

Emphasising people-to-people ties as the foundation of the relationship, the Prime Minister spoke of the shared maritime geography and cultural links across the Indian Ocean. He encouraged members of the Indian diaspora and their Malaysian friends to visit India, highlighting tourism as a vital bridge between societies.

Referring to India’s infrastructure and economic transformation, Prime Minister Modi said the country has witnessed rapid growth in connectivity over the past decade, with the number of airports doubling, highways expanding at a record pace and modern trains such as Vande Bharat gaining international recognition. He said India has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing major economy and is now among the leading global economic powers.

The Prime Minister said initiatives such as Make in India have matured, with India becoming the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer. He added that India’s transformation is opening new opportunities for global partnerships, including with Malaysia.

Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to Malaysia to further strengthen the India–Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in economic, digital, cultural and people-to-people domains.
