India, Tajikistan hold fifth counter-terrorism dialogue in Dushanbe, reaffirm commitment against terrorism

India and Tajikistan reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations during the 5th meeting of the India-Tajikistan Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter Terrorism held in Dushanbe on Wednesday.

The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Vinod Bahade, Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Mr. Sherali Jonon, Head of the Department of Asia-Pacific Countries in Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Officials from relevant ministries and agencies of both countries also participated in the discussions.

According to the MEA, the two sides discussed threats posed by terrorist groups globally and in their respective regions and exchanged views on current and emerging challenges to counter-terrorism, including countering violent extremism and radicalization, combating financing of terrorism, preventing use of technology for terrorist purposes, drug trafficking and global movement of terrorists.

India and Tajikistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism and reiterated their strong condemnation for the heinous terrorist attack on innocent civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, 2025 and the terror incident near New Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, 2025.

The two sides called for concerted action against terrorists and terrorist groups including those listed in the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee.

The two countries also discussed measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the sphere of counter terrorism through information sharing, capacity building and sharing of best practices. Both sides reaffirmed commitment to strengthen cooperation in multilateral fora including at the UN, SCO-RATS and EAG.

Recognising the growing complexity of security threats, both sides discussed measures to deepen bilateral cooperation through enhanced information sharing, capacity building, training programmes, and the exchange of best practices in counter-terrorism operations.

Both sides agreed that the next meeting of the India-Tajikistan Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism will be held in India on a mutually convenient date.
