Indian Ambassador meets new Ahmadi Governor in Kuwait, highlights community contributions

In a move to bolster diplomatic relations, India’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, met with Sheikh Humoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the newly appointed Governor of Ahmadi Governorate on Tuesday. The meeting served as an opportunity for Ambassador Swaika to congratulate the Governor on his recent appointment and discuss the substantial contributions of the Indian community within the Governorate.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait announced the meeting via their official social media account, stating, “Ambassador Swaika called on H.E. Sheikh Humoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the new Governor of Ahmadi Governorate. The Ambassador congratulated the Governor on his appointment and apprised him of contributions of the large Indian community in his Governorate.”

This diplomatic engagement follows a series of high-level meetings between Indian and Kuwaiti officials. On August 25th, Ambassador Swaika met with H.E Basil Al Haroon, Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the finance and banking sectors.

The Indian community, numbering approximately one million, represents the largest expatriate group in Kuwait. According to the Indian Embassy, they are widely regarded as the preferred expatriate community in the country.

Earlier this month, on August 18th, India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, paid an official visit to Kuwait. During his stay, Minister Jaishankar held meetings with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah and Prime Minister Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The Minister expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s leadership in guiding the enhancement of bilateral relations. Jaishankar also met with his Kuwaiti counterpart, Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, to explore opportunities for deepening bilateral ties across various sectors. Their discussions included plans for increased exchanges of visits at different levels.

These recent diplomatic engagements underscore the importance both nations place on their relationship and highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between India and Kuwait.
