Indian Coast Guard partners with Jindal Steel & Power for indigenous marine steel supply

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 7 in New Delhi aimed at enhancing indigenous content in ship building. This partnership seeks to bolster the supply of indigenous marine-grade steel, vital for the nation’s maritime security.

The MoU highlights the pivotal role of public-private partnerships in addressing complex security challenges. It underscores the necessity of collaboration between government agencies and the private sector to strengthen national interests.

Outlined within the MoU are several key benefits aimed at ensuring quality, grades, and dimensions of the marine-grade steel. Additionally, designated steel plants have been earmarked for manufacturing the product, ensuring a timely supply to shipbuilding yards serving the ICG.

Speaking on the occasion, officials from both entities expressed their commitment to fostering indigenisation and enhancing capabilities to produce and utilize these essential materials for the nation’s maritime defense.
