Indian diaspora assembles at Nassau Coliseum ahead of PM Modi’s New York event

Community members have started gathering about five hours before the event, with artists from different groups preparing to showcase traditional music.

Preparations are in full swing at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, as members of the Indian diaspora gather for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s highly anticipated community event, “Modi and US,” scheduled for Sunday.

Crowds began arriving as early as five hours before the event, with artists from various cultural groups getting ready to showcase traditional music and performances. Among the performers, the Jallosh Dhol-Tasha group, representing the Indian state of Maharashtra, entertained attendees with energetic rhythms as they awaited PM Modi’s arrival.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to address the gathering at approximately 9:30 PM IST. The Jallosh Dhol-Tasha group, hailing from New Jersey, comprises members from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Northern India, bringing together diverse cultural elements.

Indian community members outside the venue are engaged in final rehearsals for their dance performances. Groups from Telangana, Bihar, and Gujarat will also showcase Bollywood and folk dance performances, adding to the vibrant cultural atmosphere ahead of PM Modi’s much-awaited interaction with the diaspora.
