Since the inaugural observance in 2015, India has led global Yoga Day celebrations under the aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH, with support from state governments, Indian missions abroad and United Nations agencies. The initiative has promoted yoga as a tool for holistic health and preventive healthcare.

The year 2026 marks the 12th edition of the International Day of Yoga. The theme for this year’s observance, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, underscores the role of yoga in helping people remain active, independent and engaged across all stages of life.
