Indian stock markets close lower on Thursday

Indian equity markets ended in the red on September 5, with the Nifty slipping below the 25,150 mark. The Sensex closed 151.48 points lower, or 0.18 percent, at 82,201.16, while the Nifty dropped by 53.60 points, or 0.21 percent, settling at 25,145.10.

Market breadth was mixed, with 2,185 shares advancing, 1,585 shares declining, and 99 remaining unchanged.

Leading the Nifty’s gainers were Titan Company, LTIMindtree, Wipro, BPCL, and ITC. Meanwhile, Coal India, Britannia Industries, Cipla, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, and Reliance Industries were among the top losers.

On the sectoral front, the capital goods, power, oil & gas, and realty sectors experienced selling pressure. In contrast, the metal, IT, telecom, and media sectors saw buying interest.

The BSE midcap index edged up by 0.3 percent, while the smallcap index gained 0.5 percent.
