India’s 5G rollout is one of the fastest in world: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Displaying the might of India’s technological capabilities, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the 2,00,000th 5G site at Gangotri on May 24. With this development, India has successfully installed 2,00,000 sites covering 700 districts across the country. Chardhams (Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamnotri) are now covered with 5G mobile coverage. Most of the towers on the Chardham Yatra route have also been connected.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India is witnessing a Telecom Kranti. The 5G rollout has been one of the fastest rollouts in the world, with one site installed per minute.” He added that it’s a matter of pride that the 2,00,000th 5G site has been commissioned in Gangotri, Chardham.

Seamless access to the internet for pilgrims

In a statement released by the Ministry, it states that fibre connectivity, which supports extremely high bandwidth, will ensure high internet bandwidth for seamless access to pilgrims visiting the locations. Further, voice and video call quality in and around temple premises and through the yatra route will be very good in spite of the high numbers of pilgrims. It is also noteworthy that the entire trekking path (6 km) from Ghangaria to HemKund Sahib has been covered with mobile services.

“Connectivity in Chardhams will enable pilgrimages to stay connected to their kin and world. In Sanchar Kranti, the remotest villages are also being covered,” said Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

What is 5G and how will it benefit us?

5G technology is the successor and 5th generation of mobile network systems. The technology is going to be a game changer in the way the world connects. The technology is developed in such a manner that it will provide seamless coverage, minimal latency, higher speed, and highly reliable communications. In today’s world, where everything is either shifting or transitioning into the virtual phase, 5G technology is going to have a profound role in every sector.

Across the world, various countries are in the process of adopting 5G technology, as no country wants to be left behind in the upcoming 5G revolution and also to be a part of this ongoing digital revolution. In October 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services in India at the Indian Mobile Congress in New Delhi. During his address, the Prime Minister highlighted that 5G technology is a gift to crores of Indians, which the youth and entrepreneurs can use to their advantage to help the country scale new heights of development.

India is gearing up for 6G technology

During the launch, the Union Minister, in a major announcement, informed that India has over 100 patents in 6G technology. The Minister said it shows the prowess of the talented engineers and innovators of the country. He further said that developed countries like the USA are showing interest in the Indian 4G/5G technology stack.
