India’s history-making Paralympians touch down in Delhi to rousing welcome

India’s Paralympics winners received a grand welcome as they arrived in New Delhi with their medals on Saturday (September 07).

Shooter Avani Lekhara, India’s first woman to win gold in the Paralympics, retained her win in the Women’s 10m air rifle standing after winning the same category three years ago in Tokyo.

Athletes including Pranav Soorma, Manish Narwal who won silver, and Rubina Francis, Mona Agarwal who won bronze titles also received a warm welcome from their friends and family members at the airport.

India has won a total of 27 medals so far with six golds, nine silvers and 12 bronze, surpassing the country’s highest score of 19 in Tokyo.
