IndiaSkills National Competition 2025-26 begins in Greater Noida, showcasing top talent

India’s premier skill competition, the IndiaSkills National Competition 2025-26, commenced with a grand opening ceremony in Greater Noida, bringing together over 650 of the country’s most talented youth to compete across 63 skill categories.

Organised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and supported by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the competition is a key initiative aimed at promoting excellence in skills and building a future-ready workforce aligned with global standards.

The participants are finalists selected from five regional competitions held across the country, which saw thousands of candidates demonstrate technical expertise and discipline. The event marks a significant step in India’s efforts to strengthen its skilling ecosystem and advance the vision of a developed India.

Addressing the gathering, MSDE Secretary Debashree Mukherjee emphasised the importance of skill development, stating that while education builds knowledge, skills give it purpose and power. She urged young Indians to take pride in their abilities and highlighted the role of such platforms in preparing a strong contingent for the upcoming WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai.

Senior Economic Adviser Manisha Sensarma described IndiaSkills as a critical component of India’s structured talent development ecosystem, noting the scale of participation and strong industry alignment. NSDC CEO Arunkumar Pillai underlined the importance of collaboration between industry and training institutions to ensure skill development meets real-world demands.

The competition covers a wide range of domains – from traditional trades like electrical installation and electronics to emerging fields such as cybersecurity, autonomous mobile robotics, additive manufacturing, and unmanned aerial systems. Of the 63 categories, 43 are being conducted onsite, while 20 are evaluated through offsite formats.

This year’s edition has recorded over 3.65 lakh registrations from across 36 states and Union Territories via the Skill India Digital Hub, reflecting growing interest among youth in skill-based careers. More than 200 industry partners, including leading companies, are supporting the event to ensure alignment with industry standards.

Winners of the national competition will go on to represent India at the WorldSkills Competition 2026 in Shanghai, often referred to as the “Olympics of Skills.”

The competition will continue until April 2, culminating in a closing ceremony where top performers across categories will be honoured.
