The Embassy of India in Riyadh, in collaboration with the Saudi Yoga Committee and the Ministry of Sports of Saudi Arabia, organized an International Seminar on Yoga on June 20th, 2024, as part of the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Self and Society.”
The seminar was presided over by Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, the Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Nouf Al-Marwai,President of the Saudi Yoga Committee and a Padma Shri awardee, and Rajashree Choudhary, President of the International Yoga Sports Federation, were the event’s chief guests.
Ambassador Khan spoke about the expanding popularity of Yoga practices worldwide and its significance for both personal and societal well-being. Other distinguished speakers discussed various Yoga-related topics, including its promotion in the Gulf area, its potential for future wellness, its effectiveness in treating psychosomatic diseases, and its development as a competitive sport.
The event also featured documentary screenings on the history of Yoga and the International Day of Yoga.
Embassy officials, invited members of the Indian diaspora, and members of the diplomatic community attended the seminar. Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, the Ambassador, presented mementos to the chief guests and speakers.
