Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a clinical all-round performance to register a thumping 100-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their IPL 2025 clash on Thursday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
MI’s bowling trio—Karn Sharma, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah—were the architects of the commanding victory, dismantling the RR batting lineup with precision and discipline. This victory marked MI’s sixth consecutive win after a shaky start to the season, where they lost four of their first five matches.
MI posted mammoth total
Opting to bat first, MI openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma gave the team a flying start. The duo added 116 runs for the first wicket, laying the foundation for a massive total. Rickelton was the first to reach his half-century, scoring 61 off 38 balls with seven boundaries and three sixes. Rohit followed with a composed 53 off 36 deliveries, laced with nine fours.
Maheesh Theekshana eventually broke the partnership, dismissing Rickelton. Rohit soon followed, falling to RR skipper Riyan Parag. However, the Royals found no respite as Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya took charge in the death overs.
The pair stitched an unbeaten 94-run stand, with both remaining not out on identical scores of 48 off just 23 balls. Suryakumar finished the innings with a flourish, launching a six off the final delivery to propel MI to 217/2 in their 20 overs.
Rajasthan Royals Collapse Under Pressure
Chasing a daunting 218-run target, RR crumbled under pressure, folding for just 117 in 16.1 overs. The collapse began early as Deepak Chahar dismissed opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi for a duck in the first over. Trent Boult removed Yashasvi Jaiswal (13 off 6) and Nitish Rana (9 off 11) in quick succession, leaving RR reeling.
RR’s middle order offered little resistance. Jasprit Bumrah struck a decisive blow in the 5th over, removing skipper Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer in consecutive deliveries. Impact Player Shubham Dubey showed some intent with a 15-run cameo, but was sent back by Hardik Pandya.
Dhruv Jurel tried to anchor the innings but was dismissed for 11 by Karn Sharma, who then went on to clean up the tail. Karn finished with impressive figures of 3/23, while Boult also claimed three wickets. Bumrah chipped in with two, and Pandya and Chahar picked up a wicket each.
Despite a late 26-run stand between Jofra Archer (30) and Akash Madhwal, RR never looked in contention and succumbed to a heavy defeat.
