The Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Eden Gardens on Monday was abandoned due to persistent rain, forcing both teams to share a point each.
After winning the toss, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane opted to bat, but the hosts suffered early setbacks against a disciplined Punjab pace attack led by Xavier Bartlett. Expensive overseas recruit Cameron Green departed for 4, while opener Finn Allen managed just 6, leaving KKR struggling at 16 for 2 inside the first two overs.
Rahane (8*) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (7*) then steadied the innings briefly, taking the score to 25 for 2 in 3.4 overs before drizzle interrupted play.
The drizzle soon turned into steady rain, forcing the players off the field. Although the rain eased around 10:30 pm, waterlogged conditions prevented the ground staff from preparing the field in time for even a five-over contest. The match was eventually called off at 10:58 pm.
Despite sharing points, PBKS climbed to the top of the IPL 2026 points table with five points from three matches. KKR, meanwhile, remain eighth with one point from three games.
KKR will next face Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday as they search for their first win of the season, while Punjab Kings return to Mullanpur to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11.
