Islamabad High Court suspends Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi’s sentence in Toshakhana case

Islamabad High Court suspended the jail sentence of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case. Imran and Bushra Bib were awarded 14 years imprisonment, which was challenged in the High Court.

The High Court on Monday said that the hearing in the case would be fixed after the Eid holidays, Geo TV has reported.

Imran and Bushra were sentenced by an Islamabad Accountability Court on January 31. Both were also sentenced to seven years in jail in cases related to their marriage during the Iddat period.

A former Pakistani cricketer turned politician Imran Khan was accused of retaining expensive gifts received during his tenure as the Prime Minister. Following the conviction in the Toshakhana case he was barred from holding a political position for five years.

The ban was imposed by the Election Commission days before the general elections in Pakistan. Imran Khan and his wife failed to deposit the expensive gifts with the government treasury or sell them at a lower price. HS.
