Italian PM Giorgia Meloni congratulates PM Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister, describing the achievement as a historic milestone and reaffirming the growing partnership between the two countries.

In a post on X, Meloni said, “Congratulations to Narendra Modi who today becomes the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the history of India. It has been a pleasure to meet again in Rome in recent weeks and to launch together a Special Strategic Partnership that looks to the future to create new opportunities for our Nations and our peoples.”

PM Modi was on an official visit to Italy in May, during which the two leaders agreed to elevate the India-Italy Strategic Partnership to a Special Strategic Partnership, marking a significant step forward in bilateral relations.

During official talks held in Rome on May 20, PM Modi and Prime Minister Meloni reviewed the progress achieved under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.

The two leaders welcomed the strong momentum in high-level exchanges and the growing diversification of bilateral cooperation. They agreed to institutionalise annual meetings between the two Prime Ministers, including on the sidelines of major multilateral events, while also enhancing ministerial and institutional-level engagements.

The discussions covered a broad range of areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, science and technology, research and innovation, space cooperation, energy, artificial intelligence, critical technologies, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
