Jeddah: Barcelona thrashes Real Madrid 5-2 to win Spanish Super Cup for 15th time

FC Barcelona crushed Real Madrid 5-2 to secure their 15th Spanish Super Cup crown at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah on Sunday.

Despite an early lead by Real Madrid, courtesy of Frenchman Kylian Mbappé in the 5th minute, Barcelona staged a strong comeback. Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal leveled the score in the 22nd minute, firing past Real’s goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois.

Barcelona continued to dominate, with Polish striker Robert Lewandowski converting a penalty in the 36th minute after Eduardo Camavinga fouled Gavi. Moments later, Brazilian winger Raphinha extended the lead to 3-1 with a powerful header off a cross from defender Jules Koundé in the 39th minute.

Real Madrid attempted a fightback but failed to make a significant impact. Barcelona’s defender Alejandro Balde added further misery by scoring the fourth goal during first-half stoppage time.

The second half saw Barcelona maintain their momentum, as Raphinha netted his second goal of the match in the 48th minute with a brilliant solo effort, slicing through Real Madrid’s defense. Real responded with a goal in the 60th minute when Rodrygo scored from a sublime free kick. The free kick followed a foul on Mbappé by Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, who was sent off with a red card.

Despite playing with 10 men, Barcelona successfully held off Real Madrid’s repeated attacks to secure a dominant victory and lift the Spanish Super Cup title.
