Jyotiraditya Scindia launches time-definite Speed Post services to boost India’s logistics network

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Tuesday launched three new time-definite express delivery services by the Department of Posts, marking a major push to modernise India’s logistics ecosystem.

The services – 24 Speed Post, 48 Speed Post, and 24 Speed Post Parcel – aim to provide faster, reliable and technology-driven delivery solutions for businesses and individuals, in line with the government’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”

The launch event was attended by Minister of State Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani and senior officials, following successful pilot testing of the services across multiple locations.

Faster, guaranteed deliveries

The newly introduced 24 Speed Post and 24 Speed Post Parcel services offer next-day (D+1) delivery between six major metro cities – New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Key features include – assured delivery timelines, with compensation in case of delays; real-time tracking and OTP-based delivery confirmation; and delivery on Sundays and holidays (except national holidays.

The 48 Speed Post service ensures two-day (D+2) delivery for documents between the same metro cities, supported by tracking and SMS alerts.

Focus on businesses and e-commerce

The Communications Ministry said the services are expected to significantly benefit e-commerce companies, MSMEs and start-ups, enabling faster movement of parcels across major commercial centres.

The rollout began with live bookings from post offices in key cities, with plans to expand to Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities in phases.

Reinventing India Post

Speaking at the launch, Scindia described the initiative as a “moment of renewal” for India Post, highlighting its transformation into a modern logistics provider.

“For more than 170 years, the Department of Posts has connected the nation. Going forward, it will carry the momentum of India’s economic growth,” Pemmasani said.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen India’s logistics infrastructure during the Amrit Kaal, with a focus on speed, reliability and customer-centric services.

With these offerings, the Department of Posts aims to enhance its presence in the premium express delivery segment and reinforce its role as a trusted national logistics partner.
