Kanchenjunga Express train accident: Passenger files complaint against loco and co-loco pilot of goods train

A passenger traveling on the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express that derailed on Monday after a collision with a goods train in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district has filed a complaint against the loco pilot and co-loco pilot of the goods train.

The passenger, identified as Chinmoy Majumdar, has alleged in her complaint that the accident occurred due to the “negligent conduct of the loco pilot and co-loco pilot.”

The death toll in the accident rose to 10 on Tuesday, with over 25 people reported injured.

Dr. Sandeep Kumar Sengupta, Dean of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, said that 37 people were admitted yesterday, with two critically injured individuals who died Tuesday.

“They were in a critical condition. Unfortunately, we couldn’t save them and both died today,” Sengupta said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northeast Frontier Railway, Janak Kumar Garg, has announced a statutory inquiry into the accident.

The passenger train eventually reached its destination, Sealdah station in Kolkata, in the early hours of Tuesday after restoration work was completed.
