The Kanti Highway, a key route linking Hetauda to Kathmandu in Bagmati Province, has been blocked by landslides following heavy rainfall overnight. The landslide occurred in the Bakaiya rural municipality of Makwanpur, leading to a complete halt in traffic. Authorities are working to clear the debris and reopen the highway as soon as possible.
Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that the ongoing monsoon is likely to bring light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms in several areas across all provinces. In addition, heavy rainfall is expected in certain parts of Koshi, Madhes, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
There is also a possibility of storms in some regions of the Tarai. The department has indicated the likelihood of very heavy rainfall in parts of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim, with risks of flooding, landslides, and waterlogging in both urban and lowland Tarai areas. The public is advised to remain alert to these weather conditions.
