Kargil Vijay Diwas: IAF’s female Agniveers conduct drill at India Gate

The Indian Air Force (IAF) marked the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas with a special inaugural performance by its Agniveervayu Women’s drill team at India Gate on Friday. The event, featuring 29 female Agniveers, was organized to commemorate the ‘Rajat Jayanti Vijay Diwas’ and honor the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War.

Priyanka Sara, an Agniveervayu from Jaipur, said “I am the first woman in my entire family to join the armed forces,” she said, expressing her passion for the Indian Air Force. Sara, an NCC A certificate holder, described the Agniveervayu training as unique and highlighted the strict regimen focused on building physical and mental stamina.

The drill team’s performance showcased the skills and discipline instilled in these young recruits, reflecting the IAF’s commitment to gender inclusivity and excellence.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the Kargil War heroes by laying a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh. This solemn act underscored the nation’s gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice during Operation Vijay in 1999.

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates the success of Operation Vijay in 1999. During this conflict, Indian forces successfully reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir that had been infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and terrorists.
