‘Karmayogi Saptah’ – One step towards for transformative public service

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inaugurated the National Learning Week (NLW) on 19th October, 2024, marking a new chapter in civil service capacity building under the Mission Karmayogi initiative.

This groundbreaking effort aims to foster continuous skill enhancement and lifelong learning among civil servants, ensuring their competencies align with the country’s evolving goals. This initiative will stimulate a renewed commitment to learning and development and aims to create a “One Government” message, align everyone with national goals and promote lifelong learning.

On 2nd September 2020, Government approved the National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building (NPCSCB) with six key pillars including Policy Framework, Institutional Framework, Competency Framework, Digital Learning Framework (iGOT-Karmayogi), the electronic Human Resource Management System (e-HRMS) and the Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.

The Programme will cover all civil servants (including contractual employees) across different ministries, departments, organizations and agencies of the Union Government.

Karmayoga For Karmayogis

The spirit behind this scheme is the motto of the Civil Services enshrined in Bhagvad Gita as Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam which denotes efficiency in action, signifies productive efficiency for producing maximum results. In normal parlance, it means all civil servants must be efficient to discharge their responsibilities to the society.

It is aligned with what Swami Vivekananda said “Atmano moksartham jagadhitaya ca” for one’s own liberation and for the welfare of the world. Public service should aim such perfection.
