Kerala’s Health Minister Veena George confirmed that three additional individuals tested negative for the Nipah virus, bringing the total number of negative cases in the current outbreak to 78. The state continues to closely monitor the situation as efforts to contain the virus intensify.
During a high-level meeting chaired by Minister George, officials assessed the ongoing outbreak and updated the contact list, which now includes 267 individuals. The health minister also provided updates on the current cases under observation.
“One person showing symptoms has been admitted to Manjeri Medical College today. With this addition, a total of four people are currently receiving treatment at Manjeri Medical College, while 28 others are under care at MES Medical College in Perinthalmanna,” the minister said.
Efforts to provide psychological support to those on the contact list are ongoing, with 276 individuals receiving assistance through a dedicated call center, including two new cases added on Sunday.
The Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala has sparked concern, with the state on high alert. Minister Veena George previously met with Union Health Minister JP Nadda in Delhi on September 17 to discuss measures to combat the virus. The region has experienced similar outbreaks in the past, including the most recent in 2023 in Kozhikode district.
