Khelo India winners now eligible for government jobs: Anurag Thakur

Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Wednesday announced that athletes who excel in Khelo India Games, including both winners and runners-up, will now be eligible for government jobs.

In a post on X, Thakur said: “This groundbreaking step now extends eligibility to medal winners from the Khelo India Games – Youth, University, Para, and Winter Games – to be eligible for government jobs. Additionally, games and events have been clearly defined to ensure inclusivity across various sports.”

The Khelo India – National Programme for Development of Sports was launched in October 2017 with the aim to strengthen the sports ecosystem and promote the twin objectives of mass participation and promotion of excellence in sports across the country.

The decision will help nurture talent at grassroots level and transform sports into a lucrative and viable career option.
