L-G Saxena outlines ‘Viksit Delhi’ vision, stresses transparent governance

Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V. K. Saxena on Tuesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing ₹2,500 per month to women in Delhi. He emphasized that the ‘Viksit Delhi’ manifesto would serve as the guiding principle for the new administration, which is dedicated to delivering a corruption-free government.

Saxena said that the government would adhere to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas aur Sabka Samman.”

Addressing the Delhi Assembly session, the L-G outlined the government’s priorities and expressed confidence in its ability to ensure transparent governance. He highlighted key focus areas, including the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health scheme, women’s empowerment, cleaning the Yamuna, developing unauthorized colonies, and providing affordable meals in slums.

Emphasizing the need for change, he said that perpetuating poverty and maintaining the status quo cannot be a matter of state policy. He assured that the government would work for the development of all sections of society, including the lower, middle, and upper classes. Highlighting the commitment to economic growth and job creation, Saxena criticized the previous administration for relying on advertising campaigns to mask its failures. Instead, he asserted that the current government would prioritize tangible results and delivery.

The L-G said that the government views the overwhelming mandate as a public endorsement of its promised policy overhaul. His remarks were met with protests from opposition AAP legislators, who were later marshalled out following Speaker Vijender Gupta’s instruction. Throughout the address, BJP MLAs thumped their desks and chanted “Modi, Modi,” particularly when the L-G spoke about cleaning the Yamuna, ensuring clean water, and creating jobs.

He detailed key governance priorities such as improving healthcare, education, and transport, ensuring clean drinking water, conducting a manpower audit for efficient administration, and implementing PM Modi’s housing scheme for slum dwellers.

Saxena also reiterated promises of providing subsidized LPG cylinders, financial assistance for pregnant women, and free OPD and diagnostic services. Additionally, he announced plans to increase pensions for the elderly and widows. The government has prepared a 100-day action plan that focuses on improving roads, sewers, water supply, and drainage systems.

The Delhi L-G said that in its first Cabinet meeting, the government decided to table the CAG report in the Assembly to analyze and rectify administrative lapses of the previous administration. To generate revenue for overall development, the government plans to introduce several schemes to promote economic activity. He expressed the government’s ambition to make Delhi the country’s cleanest metro and achieve the top rank in the Swachh Bharat rankings. Efforts will focus on eliminating landfill waste and transforming waste sites into green areas like Bansera, developed by the DDA.

Saxena also criticized the previous government for obstructing healthy discussions in the House and using the Assembly as a platform to attack constitutional authorities. His address was followed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta tabling the CAG report in the House, with legislators participating in the ‘Vote of Thanks’ on the L-G’s speech.
