Lakshya Sen’s Paris Olympics win over Kevin Cordon stands ‘deleted’

By: Aditya Ahuja

Ace Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen’s dominating win over Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon in the men’s singles Group L match at the Paris Olympics has been nullified. Cordon withdrew from the tournament due to a left elbow injury, leading to the deletion of all his matches from the group stage, including his match against Lakshya Sen.

Cordon’s withdrawal means his upcoming Group L matches against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie and Belgium’s Julien Carraggi will not take place.

Why Lakshya’s game has been ‘deleted’?

As per the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) General Competition Regulations, if a player withdraws during the group stage, all their past and future matches are considered ‘deleted.’ As a result, Lakshya Sen’s victory over Kevin Cordon, which initially earned him valuable points, is now void, and his points tally has been reset to zero. The group has been reduced from four players to three.

Lakshya Sen will be ranked based on the results of his remaining two matches in Group L. His next fixture is against Julien Carraggi on July 29.

Lakshya defeated Kevin Cordon in straight sets with scores of 21-8 and 22-20, in a match lasting 42 minutes.
