Landslide in Nepal kills 12, leaves 10 seriously injured

In Nepal, Floods and landslides caused by heavy monsoon rains continued to wreak chaos across Nepal, resulting in 12 deaths over the past 24 hours in Baglung and Gumli. Four people went missing while 10 others were injured in Tuesday landslide incidents. The locals have taken the injured in Baglung to the Burtibang Primary Health Center for treatment. 

The rescue operation for the four missing people in the landslide started early Wednesday morning. A Nepali Army helicopter reached the district to rescue the injured, but the chopper could not land in the affected area due to adverse weather.  The injured were treated by health workers of the Nepal Army.

The landslide occurred as the rainwater swept away soil and debris piled up on the roadside. Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains disrupted various highways and road sections. The vehicular movement was obstructed in the Khotang section of the Sagarmatha Highway as the flood-damaged road in ward 11 of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality.

Likewise, the BP Highway and Araniko Highway were blocked by landslides in the Kavrepalanchok district on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, the Muglin-Malekhu road was disrupted due to a landslide and vehicular movement was obstructed Prithvi Highway in Ichchhakamana of Chitwan. 

Since the start of the monsoon on June 10 in Nepal, a total of 165 people have died in monsoon-induced disasters across the country till Tuesday evening.
