A change in weather was witnessed across the national capital on Tuesday morning, as light rainfall brought temporary relief from rising temperatures.
Overcast skies, damp roads, and a noticeable dip in temperature were observed in several parts of the city, with commuters navigating through light showers during the early hours.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is expected to record a minimum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 31 degrees Celsius during the day. The weather department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph.
These conditions are likely to persist through the day, indicating an extended spell of unstable weather in the city.
The rainfall has also led to a marginal improvement in air quality. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) at 117, which falls in the “Moderate” category. Authorities have advised sensitive groups to remain cautious.
The IMD has issued a broader outlook for northwest India, forecasting isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Similar conditions are expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Rajasthan.
A fresh wet spell is likely between April 7 and April 10, with widespread rainfall and snowfall predicted in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Delhi and adjoining areas, including parts of west Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, are expected to witness scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds on April 7 and 8.
The IMD has also warned of thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching up to 70 kmph over parts of Rajasthan, along with the possibility of isolated hailstorms across northern states, including Delhi. Heavy rainfall is also likely in some areas of the Kashmir Valley and Himachal Pradesh in the coming days.
