The Lok Sabha will on Monday take up the discussion on the President’s Address, with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal set to move the motion of thanks to the President for her address to the joint sitting of Parliament on January 28.
According to the list of business, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya will second the motion.
The House has allotted 18 hours for the discussion, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to reply on February 4. The Lok Sabha will convene at 11 am to take up the agenda.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to reply on February 11.
At an all-party meeting held on January 27, opposition parties pressed for discussions on several issues, including the restoration of MGNREGA, the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and the controversy surrounding the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Budget Session of Parliament will span 30 sittings over 65 days and conclude on April 2. Both Houses will adjourn for a recess on February 13 and reconvene on March 9 to allow Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants of various ministries and departments.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Sitharaman on Sunday presented the Union Budget 2026–27 in the Lok Sabha, marking her ninth consecutive Union Budget.
She said the Union Budget 2026–27 is driven by Yuvashakti and anchored in “three kartavyas.” As part of the Budget proposals, Sitharaman announced plans for seven high-speed rail corridors, new dedicated freight corridors, and the operationalisation of 20 national waterways over the next five years.
The Budget also outlined a major push for environmentally sustainable passenger transport, with the proposed high-speed rail corridors expected to connect key urban and economic centres, reduce travel time, lower emissions, and support regional development.
